"The Airship Legacy" has gone live on drunk duck!

My webcomic "The Airship Legacy" has finally kicked off on Drunkduck.com, beginning with the prologue. It's the story of the Infallible Captain Wesley, the insane creepy circus girl holding him captive, and his seedy inherited man-servant, O'Malley. This is my first webcomic so I'm really excited to see what you guys think! here's the link-------------------------> http://www.drunkduck.com/The_Airship_Legacy/

I fear that the instinctual male urge to impress the female got the better of me. I demonstrated for both Arabella and Miss Crouch the Stellar Chronometer's ability to project the heavens onto the ceiling. Arabella was full of knowledge of constellations and myth. Miss Crouch was quiet for a very long time and then said gravely that it was truly wondrous and perhaps belonged elsewhere. Only now am I wondering about that remark.

We are at flying at high altitude to avoid any possible… Continue

Flattering Steampunk Style for the Tall and Robust Figure

This post was prompted by a forum member asking how to best dress a woman of six feet and a robust frame as a stylish lady Steampunk. The following has been lightly edited from the original reply to focus primarily upon the information presented.

I'll…

Beyond Victoriana #16 Post-Apocalyptic Math Musical! The Hidden Sky

Steampunk's "era that never was" is often placed during an enlightened mechanical age of the past, when technological innovations mix with historical mores. In a romantic sense, technology is humankind's hope for a better world; nostalgic steampunk celebrates the sense of wonder and accomplishment people feel in the presence of functionality. But steampunk, though commonly placed in optimistic contexts, can take a darker turn. The genre, after all, is cousin to cyberpunk, that… Continue

Tick tock

About a year and a half ago, with my increasing immersion into steampunk, I decided that I should carry a better pocket watch than the steel Soviet commemorative one that I had gotten years ago when the Evil Empire was going out of business and selling stuff on the cheap. I pulled my grandfather's (on my mother's side) non-functioning pocket watch off the shelf and took it to a watch repair shop downtown in the hopes of having it repaired. It was a nice little gold watch and I…

Finally fate is with us. We moored to a circus tent that was in town and snaked back to the university. Arabella surprised me by communicating with the professors not in Polish, but in Greek-one scholar to another. Not what I expected but, I assumed falsely. They would part with neither oxygen nor soda lime, til I offered them 5 meters of my mysterious threadlike material . With wide sparkling eyes, they gave us all we needed. We fly east. Continue

the wonders of tinkering!

Well a nice tinkering with some scrap metal and other things makes a good brainstorming. Making anything out of so called "nothing" is a better way to use unwanted things. but breaking something down and deconstructing it is a better way to learn how something works. I think that is a way of getting into someones inspired mind and understand what they know. It is quite effective. ^.=.^

The wounded cell was patched in flight and now vacuum tight; the crew performed well. We are looking for a place to land or moor at the university. We are certainly the center of attention and we may be forced to occupy a sports field without permission. We have a team ready to de-ship and find my two colleagues. I am hoping that they will be able to supply us with soda lime as well as liquid oxygen. Rapidity will no doubt be paramount as I detect police among our ground observers. Continue

Yet another hurried launch. We had no choice when both cavalry and artillery pieces appeared. I had hoped to avoid a fire fight, but they used a large Gatling gun and pierced one of the vacuum cells. A single shot from the "Tesla Gun", as the men call it, over the soldiers heads, spooked and dispersed the horses-including the team pulling the Gatling. As I stared down at the river, I was sad with the inescapable knowledge that I will likely never see my ancestral home again. Krakow… Continue

Was ill so haven't made anything new, but I did get a nifty pair of gothic Steampunk cowboy boots from New Rock.

They are a deep mahogny leather with a black wash over them with gold and doodad detailing. Chains will take a little getting used to but they are comfy out of the box.

THE SEVEN: SCARLET FEVER

The script for Issue One is complete for the Scarlet Fever story arc. There will be seven issues in all, and though we currently have no publisher attached we are going ahead with turning this thing into a reality in the next couple of months. I am glad you all have enjoyed the concept art, and I will be releasing a sneak peen of the script soon!

mind of an artificer

With how things go sometimes you need a few friends. When you cannt make friends why not build them. They can be there when you need then and if you put the proper gear on them, they can protect you by any means. but you also have to look at the down side like them maybe getting blown up my some explosives. If that happens you just either repair or rebuild them. I am goggles foxfire the artificer and I say clockwork is awsome!

Log Entry 1

The Airship Falcon III, being a rather new vessel, is obviously a bit disorganized. It has taken me until now to realize that none among our crew keep a ship's log. As perhaps the most experienced crew member (as I have lived my entire, if young, life on various flying contraptions), I have taken it upon my own shoulders. Hopefully when we find someone to replace our old captain, they may take the burden from me.

As far as I can tell, we are currently stationed in the year 2010… Continue

I have just returned from visiting friends at the observatory to discover that Lady Elphinstone has paid to bring a large supply of ethanol on board in hopes of securing passage on our expedition. I'm unsure how to deal with that. Also, it appears that The Kaiser's army has taken an interest in our presence. It would seem we are to be vagabonds. Jones has the crew ready to launch for Krakow on command

The refit is in full swing. The cabin will be sealed by tomorrow. Jones has the crew working well. My reception here is not as jovial as I would have liked; there seems to still be hard feelings over the incident with the grain silo. Both women seem to be more than meets the eye. Miss Crouch and Lady Elphinstone had a long conversation about ancient Egyptian medical practices over lunch. Continue

We should land in Dusseldorf shortly for resupply and refit. I have friends here and there should still be a appropriate field that I know of. I allowed Lady Elphinstone to examine the chronometer and she has several interesting ideas, so I have agreed to let her stay until we depart. The methanol is already degrading some of the seals. MacNab I and discussed a slight change of fuels. Continue

Aflight

We are making 43 knots. Staying over the ocean all around the north of English has taken quite a bit of time. We climbed above a storm last night. The Dragon handled well, but we were not prepared for the cold over the north sea or the mountain climbing affliction. If we can seal the cabin to maintain one atmosphere, we can overcome these problems. I am angry that I had not anticipated the issue.

Miss Crouch continues to impress with her culinary skills. The captain's table seats 6 and… Continue

Beyond Victoriana: #15 Ghosts and the Machine—a Review of Dan Simmons' Black Hills

I had the chance to get an advanced copy for Dan Simmons' latest book Black Hills, which pubs this month, a book that easily falls into several bins: historical fiction, supernatural suspense, and Weird West. In fact, Dan Simmons is one of those writers who has spanned multiple genres in his… Continue

The ship is handling well. All 7 vacuum cells are perfect. So far only the heating system shows a lack. We headed west first to throw off pursuit and we are currently circling back north around England to head east. The constant hum of the engine and motors made me sleep as a child in his mother's arms. With Myself, Jones, MacNab, Crouch, 16 crew and the temporary Lady Elphinstone, we are 21 souls in the belly of the Wee Dragon. This feels like the true beginning of my life's work Continue
