June 2014 update

Good day, dear readers. I hope this communique finds you all well.

Faraday, book three in the tesla saga, is now at the editor having all the bad bits removed. I am hoping there will be something left after she has finished with it. It is due out in August, assuming I don’t need to rewrite it. You may get an annoying spammy email regarding its release, so I apologise in advance.

The big news is that Tesla is going to be converted into a graphic novel. This task is being…

Steampunk Paino (2)

So after much ado, the paint job is finally on. I had a massive headache getting the paint to behave in an appropriate and timely manner. The piano faces directly west, so the sun beats down on it pretty relentlessly during the longest days of our year. The heat was so intense that the paint started to blister with every coat. So every coat I had to sand down and touch up. I finally decided to work on it at night time, starting around 9pm and going home around midnight. The only drawback was…

Smallville Comicon

Since Hutchinson is basically Smallville from Superman's childhood, there was a huge celebration of that this year in the form of a two day convention! I blog about it on my personal web page, and since there are too many photos for me to upload here, please visit the website www.emptyspace.us for the full blog and all the photos! I dressed as my character, Dara Nielsen, the first day, as she appears in the beginning of Empty Space!

We interrupt this broadcast . . .

. . . to bring you this important news concerning the realignment of publishing schedules.  It seems that I find myself in the midst of a crisis.  I won't burden you with a lot of unimportant details.  It's a family issue, and nobody really cares beyond, well, me.  I will say that it came straight out of left field, and I had no idea there was even an issue here.  My mistake, there is an issue.…

THE RETURN OF THE HIEROGRAPH

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Some years ago, I published and edited a publication titled The Hierograph. At the time it served as a vehicle for artist and writers to showcase their craft, mostly with a focus on graphic novels and comics. For various reasons, I was forced to shut down the project after a mere three issues, but I vowed I would resurrect The Hierograph when time and the conditions were right. Well good people, the time has come. I am officially relaunching The Hierograph and I… Continue

DIY tutorials

As a newbie to the steampunk genre I had to learn how to do a lot on my own for budget reasons.  I found the following tutorials helped a lot with making parts of my costume and my daughter’s.
